Sharing Smiles - Internationally!

Sharing Smiles is something that we take very seriously. We try to revisit this mission statement every time we make a decision, hire a new employee and serve our patients. In addition to making this a part of our daily culture here in the office, we try to take it outside of our physical doors and out into our community.

Doesn’t it sound nice to live in a world where everyone is practicing Sharing Smiles?! We think so!

For the last 15 years, Dr. Wilk has been participating in the Guatemala Medical Resources Partnership (GMRP) through the local Hartford Rotary Club. For the last 3 years, additional team members have accompanied Dr. Wilk to be a part of this moving mission trip. This year Laura, Holly P. and Dr. Wilk attended and helped see over 500 dental patients in the makeshift dental clinic in Oliveros, Guatemala. They were able to diagnose and treat dental issues, educate patients on at-home care and leave a lasting impression on the people in Oliveros and surrounding communities. They truly practiced Sharing Smiles every day and made a huge IMPACT!

We wanted to thank our teammates for taking our mission internationally, and share with you a little bit about their story and the story of the GMRP. If you are interested in learning more about GMRP, attending a mission trip or donating to the cause, please visit their website here.

Dr. Madani will begin seeing Patients in Early April!

Dr. Madani will begin seeing Patients in Early April!

In just a few weeks, we will gladly welcome Dr. Naheed Madani to our practice. We are so excited to have her join our team, that we came up with a fun little game to get our staff and our patients involved.

So, we came up with March Madani Madness! 16 of our team members will battle against each other in a one-minute round of pop-a-shot basketball and follow it with a BONUS trivia question about Dr. Madani. The team member who ends up winning our March Madani Madness bracket, will be the CHAMPION!

But, our patients will get a chance to be a champion as well. Make your best prediction as to what staff member will make it all the way to CHAMPION status and YOU could win $150 gift card to the Wissota Chophouse! Just fill out the bracket, put your name on it and either email it to: SharingSmiles@drpeterwilk.com OR drop it off by 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 11th.

2019 MARCH MADANI MADNESS
Contest Rules and Restrictions

GRAND AVENUE DENTAL CARE’S “MARCH MADANI MADNESS” CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES

NO PURCHASE REQUIRED TO ENTER OR WIN

1. Description: The “MARCH MADANI MADNESS” CONTEST (the “Contest”) is a prediction challenge sponsored by GRAND AVENUE DENTAL CARE (GADC). The Contest is based on the results of GADC staff members who will compete against one another in a bracket-style challenge to see who can make the most pop-a-shot basketball baskets in a minute’s time and who can successfully answer trivia questions about Dr. Madani. The staff member “winner” of each pop-a-shot/trivia bracket will advance to the next round. There are 15 separate pop-a-shot games. Entrants (as described below) will be awarded points by correctly predicting the game winners. A Grand Prize will be awarded to the Entrant who has accumulated the most points during the Contest (as described below). In the event of a tie, one winner will be randomly drawn from all of the people with the same high score. Entrants must make their predictions based on their skill, knowledge and understanding of Contest participants. This Contest is devised as a non-gambling promotion and is intended solely for entertainment purposes.

2. Eligibility:

The Contest is open only to legal residents of the 50 United States (or the District of Columbia), who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry (Entrant). The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited by law.

3. How to Enter:

Entrants will obtain a “March Madani Madness” bracket from the GADC office, the GADC website or the GADC Facebook page. Entrants will complete the bracket and return it to the GADC office in person, or electronically via email, sent to sharingsmiles@drpeterwilk.com, with the subject March Madani Madness.

4. Limit:

You may enter only one bracket. Any attempt by any participant to submit more than one bracket by using multiple/different email addresses, devices, identities, or any other methods will void that participant’s entries and that participant may be disqualified from the Contest.

5. Contest Period:

The Contest consists of bracket entries from 3/1/2019 to 3/11/2019. Games will be played from approximately 3/11/2019 to 3/20/2019. This is subject to change, based on staff’s schedules, etc. We are aiming to play the final game on 3/20/2019. We will tally all brackets and determine the winning bracket by 3/29/2019 and call the winning entry. Announcement of winning entry will happen on or before 4/1/2019.

6. Scoring: Entrants will earn points based on correct prediction of winning teams in the Contest games. The number of points awarded for each correct pick of a winning game of the Contest will increase with each round of the Contest. A maximum of 128 points can be earned if all games are predicated correctly. Contest points will be awarded as follows:

Contest Round - Points Available to be Awarded

Our 9th Annual Sharing Smiles Event is Almost Here!

Saturday, March 16th, will mark our NINTH Sharing Smiles event. This is a day where we offer free dental care to community members who are in need but without means to get the care that they need. We invite community members, ages six and up to join us for FREE dental care.

Our Sharing Smiles events started nine years ago, when Dr. Wilk asked his staff (a bit smaller at that time) to come in and volunteer on a Saturday, and to give of their time and talents to serve the community. Over the years, we have treated hundreds of patients at no charge, donating well over $100,000 of dental care to community members in need.

This year, in 2019, we will have 4-5 dentists, 4-5 hygienists, 4-5 dental assistants and more front office and supporting staff here to serve our great community! Our team will be made up of our staff, some family members and team members from PJ’s Dental Lab and Sheboygan Smile Center!

Thank you, in advance to everyone is coming together to make this day possible, including Perc Place and Sal’s Pizzeria for donating food to our volunteer staff! We just love our community!

If you are in need of dental care, we invite you to join us on Saturday, March 16th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m.

Protect your Holiday Smile!

It’s that time of year where, nearly everywhere you go, you are surrounded by sweets and goodies. It is most likely that all of us, at one point or another, will succumb to the delicious treats we find, as we make our way through the holiday season. With that in mind, here are a few tips to protect your smile this holiday season!

  1. Eat the Sweets All at Once! It might seem counterintuitive, but it’s better to eat the sugary treats all at once so that afterward you can rinse with water and let your mouth return to it’s normal state. If you graze on sweet treats throughout the day, your mouth never gets a break from the acidic environment that the sugar creates, and it can be very hard on your enamel. So, if you are going to eat some treats, eat them in one sitting and be done!

  2. Don’t Use Your Teeth as Openers! This time of year, we tend to have a lot of packages and special treats to open. Sometimes cellophane, ribbons and other wrapping can be difficult to open. However, we warn you not to give in to the temptation to use your teeth! Use a scissors or some other tool to open those packages- you don’t want to risk breaking a tooth, especially this time of year.

  3. Carry a ‘Tooth-Kit’ in Your Car! This time of year we keep things like emergency blankets and jumper cables in our cars, just in case. It’s a good idea to carry a travel size toothbrush, toothpaste and floss in your car with you also! This way, between parties or family visits, you can make sure your teeth are clean, and ready for your next social event. Keep that smile fresh!

One of Dr. Wilk’s favorite phrases is, “Everything in moderation”.

While, he does say this all of the time, it is especially true at this time of year. We don’t want you to feel like you can’t go have a sweet from the break room at work, BUT be sure not to graze all through the day, and be sure to DRINK WATER throughout the day! (Like you haven’t heard that before!) Last, but certainly not least, be sure to keep up with your oral hygiene routine at home - brush for 2 minutes, 2 times a day and floss once a day. Keep Smiling!
